Navicular bone disease is actually a syndrome rather than a disease - and it relate to lameness issues in horses. It usually affects the horse's front hoofs, whereas the navicular bone and surrounding tissue is inflamed. The navicular bone is located behind the coffin bone in the horse's hoof. The syndrome is caused by environmental causes such as lifestyle, level of exercise and feed however it is not hereditary It is more common in older horses.
